Salvage title cars

I been looking at a Lexus Is 250 for 5,500 only 112,000 miles, cheapest i could find. I asked the guy is it salvage and he said it was but only a fender accident. How can i find out if he is being honest and what do you guys recommend ? It will be my first car

If it was just a minor fender bender it most likely wouldn't have a salvage title.


It depends on how old the car was at the time of the accident. If it was an older car the. It wouldn't have taken much to write it off.

I have personally had good luck buying rebuild cars. Like high mileage cars, it can be a good way to get one cheap. What you want to do it get the CARFAX to get the details about the accident and get a pre purchase inspection from your mechanic. The pre purchase inspection is something you would want anyway, but it is especially important for rebuilds because you want to make sure that it was properly repaired.

Also note that the Car's title will show it as " Salvage" so it is worth LESS because of that status when you sell...

Be careful here.  Some insurance companies won't write a policy on a salvage title vehicle.  I personally wouldn't buy one unless it was for parts.


Usually they will still insure it for PL/PD, it's when you want anything above that such as comprehensive or collision that they tend to say no.

Do a CARFAX please!! Salvage title not a good sign! Thats why its cheap.
