I saw an episode where Scotty mentioned it would be A good idea to purchase a salvage vehicle as long as it doesn’t have electronic or water damage through a reputable Company that fixes salvage cars and sells them for reasonable price. My question it’s how do I find more information in Arizona on where to find a reputable and honest company that I can find a decent salvaged back-and-forth to work car?
The title being changed to salvage can be a very ambiguous description. The title of salvage is given to a vehicle by an insurance company after it has sustained some kind of damage whose repair quote exceeds about ~30% of the vehicles value at that time. For 10 year old vehicles this can come from minor fender benders or merging collisions. The engine/transmissions/suspension systems can remain mostly intact after stuff like this. Some VIN and carfax digging might give you the date on when the title change was made. Past that though you would have a hard time pulling old police reports and body shop invoices. For where you live you might be able to find some older guys flipping salvage cars that they buy from salvage auctions. Some of them have alot of exp with bondo jobs and DIY spray paints to mask over more severe problems. It's a roll of the dice ultimately on older salvage title cars, I would say do your research extensively to know what to look out for. The first two cars that I bought were close to 20+years old at the time and I got lucky. They are still running fine 10 and 4 years later. Granted, I was inspired to do all of my own maintenance and repairs after watching scotty kilmer's YT vids 10 years ago.
The only way u can do that right now a days it is by looking up at Google doing some research and finding a good reliable mechanic to help you buy a car.
See what mechanic has to say first before handing over the money. Because salvaged cars are like casino. You either get lucky or get ripped off.
Take it from me, I bought 2017 Fiat Abrath from auction. The cars was on wreck. They fixed it buy after 300miles it was starting to had issues with electronic and my front rotor was also broken at highway. I got the car for $3000 but with help of friend who is independent mechanic had Mt car fixed for $800
