Hi

I need a scanner with bidirectional control... Both my cars are 20 year old gm products. I want to activate sensors and Esp evap testing... Purge and vent.

Body module codes would be nice.

It's does have to be a complicated one...

Any suggestions?

See the FAQ section on scan tools.

The factory scan tool used by the dealers at that time was the Tech2. Chinese-made clones are available. You could also opt for a clone of the newer GM MDI tool that works with newer GM vehicles and has a Tech2 emulation mode.

I have a Tech2 clone which works fine, in fact I recently used it for evap valve testing. I've never tried the MDI clones. (I think @mmj has mentioned having an MDI clone and may be able to comment on it.)

Of course the problem with these is you're spending money on something that can only work on the GM vehicles they're designed for. On the other hand, multi-brand bidirectional scan tools are more expensive.

Ok.... But what about a tool that can be used on other cars
