Good Day,
I am looking into buying a 1st generation Scion Xb as a daily beater. Most examples that are available cost around $4-$5K with 150K-200K miles.
Is this a good vehicle that will last? Are there any known issues for the 1st gen? Is this a reasonable price for the mileage?
Thanks,
They're pretty good cars but like any other used car always have a mechanic to check it out first before buying cuz you can't trust anyone selling a used vehicle and don't know the history of it.
I had a 2004 and for the most part liked it. They are very simple and reliable, and great driving around a city and getting in tight spaces. It is just a fun little car to drive.
The downside is they have no power, kinda scary getting up to speed getting on an interstate. They also don't have a cruise control which really annoyed me, I added one but it was always flaky. The air conditioner is also just adequate, but it works. If you live in a hot area, it will keep you from sweating, but that is about it. I am from south georgia, and it gets crazy hot there. It is also an economy car, so it lacks good sound deadening, I added some to mine and it helped. Kinda loud at interstate speeds.
If it will last will be based on how well the previous owner took care of it, and how well you do. There are examples of them lasting a million miles. You can also find a good many with a manual transmission, a big plus.
They are a bit of a collectors car now, so they fetch a bit higher price than it's boring brother the echo.
