Hi scotty i have a 2020 rav4 xle 7k miles recently i been hearing a buzzing robotic sound coming from the rear tire, every time i put it in park whether im in drive, nuetral, or reverse i think is the rear is it normal or is something wrong its weird cause its a 2020 and with very low mileage.
do you have electric park brakes? It should say in your owner's manual.
It says something about shift interlock function.
■Parking brake operation sound
When the parking brake operates, a
motor sound (whirring sound) may
be heard. This does not indicate a
malfunction. 🤔 could that be it
that's it
Take it to your Toyota dealer & let them figure it out. That vehicle is still under warranty, and you shouldn’t be hearing any buzzing noise.
Also, make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here. It’ll help with your evidence & members here can take a listen & try to guess the source.
Do not believe the dealer’s ‘it’s normal’ retort.

Righto, so it’s more of a squeaking noise. It’s certainly not normal & needs to be looked at by the dealer and fixed under warranty. Have them diagnose it first & keep us posted. Is the vehicle’s performance affected in any way?
It’s your automatic parking brake! Have-a-look by the shifter, … there is a parking brake button. It has a red light on it. When you move shifter into park, does it light up red and you hear sound at the same time? If it does … it’s a sound of an electric motors (at left and right rear wheel) applying parking brake. You should also hear same sound when you shift out of park, …

Addendum: … here is a guy who fiddles with this button, switches it from automatic to manual mode. Have a look:

Perfectly normal. It is the electric parking brake.
Hard to diagnose over the web, it’s under warranty, take that route.
