Indoor storage in a climate-controlled environment is always best for tire storage but that is not always possible.
Heat, moisture, and UV light exposure are the main things that accelerate deterioration of tires. Heat won't be an issue during winter. If you store the tires in tightly sealed opaque plastic bags in an area shaded from direct sunlight you should be OK.

wrap each tire in black garbage bags, or throw a tarp over the stack.
