Should I fix 2012 Chevy Traverse head gasket or buy a brand new car?

130,000 mile on it and you can hear bubble in the coolant reservoir and have a smell come from mufflers.

If you're doing the work yourself might as well fix it, most of the cost of the job is labor. The gasket itself is not very expensive. If a shop is doing the work, how much will it cost? Aside from the gasket itself the cylinder head should be checked for cracks and warpage, potentially increasing the cost of the repair.

Problem is that while used cars are selling at a premium, even under these market conditions a 10-year-old Traverse with a blown head gasket is not going to fetch much of a price. You'll get next to nothing for it and have to pay an arm and a leg for a replacement.
