1979 El Camino 6x7 sealed beam headlights ( 2 light system). Should I upgrade to Led or just run antiquated halogen bulbs? Suggestions please.

leave it be

Stay with the halogen.  There is nothing "antiquated" about them.

I did an H4 upgrade on my '99 Cherokee and it made a significant difference. No matter what headlights you use the addition of a relay wiring harness will improve light output and extend the life of your headlight switchgear if your headlights are not already relay-operated.

Thanks. I’ll try that harness

I'd keep the headlights stock as well. A friend of mine has a '78 Impala with retrofitted LEDs. The multiple individual lights inside a square car looks weird, in my opinion.

Definitely consider the harness @chucktobias mentioned. I have a 1979 Catalina myself, and the switching isn't relay operated. The dimmer switch goes full 12 volts into the switch and back out to the lights. Here's a video that explains how the switch works so you can troubleshoot in the future.

My Catalina blew the dimmer switch in the middle of the night and I had to have my girlfriend pick me up, because none of the headlights worked. I haven't put in the harness, I just replaced the switch. I keep the high beams to a minimum. A former coworker is a seasoned, old school GM mechanic and told me those dimmer switches blow regularly. The start of GM electronics problems. I have a spare in case it happens again.
