I’ve had a 1999 GMC Sierra with the 4.8 v8 and I have just about 108000 miles on it. About a year ago my BCM went out which was preventing the truck from starting. When I got it back from the dealership the light was off and I didn’t have any problems with it. Now, two days ago I was driving down the road and the security light turned on. So I took it home and turned it off and started it back up. It started back up and the light was gone. After I turned it on and off a few times I plugged in my code reader and there were no trouble codes with anything of that sort. Now, this morning the light was on again while I was warming it for school. Could my problem be an electrical issue? I did a little digging myself and found that it could be the fuse or relay that has corrosion on the prongs but I’m hesitant on trying it because I don’t want it to stop working on me.
Here's what an online owner's group says (yes, it's electrical - try cleaning all the contacts/grounds - it's a 22 year old car).
