Self tensioning snow chains

Hy Scotty, hy folks!

This time I have a question (well, a few of them 😀). I plan to switch to self tensioning snow chains.

Does anyone have experience with them? What maintenance do they require?

Common sense tells me the tensioners tend to be the most vulnerable parts. How long do they usually hold up?

Is there a possibility to replace them if they break?

Thanks in advance.

you would have to buy quality ones because I've seen cheap Chinese made ones and the tensioners sometimes don't work right out of the box

In the Army; I was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.
All "jeeps" [actually Fords - M151s] had snow chains and "we" were required to know how to install and utilize them. NO tensioners, and We were not allowed to exceed 25 MPH. Noisy little buggers and the "jeeps" we mostly Aluminum bodies.
We also had an Amphibious Truck with 6 wheels; called a Gamma Goat. We weren't allowed to take it into water, or else we could die! It wouldn't go up hills in the snow and ice - 6 wheel drive with 4 wheel steering!
