It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can get an estimate of its value at sites like kbb.com.
You'll get quite a bit less selling it via trade-in than selling it on your own. If you have another car already, that's much more preferable vs a trade-in. Dealers love to low ball you.
If you opt to trade-in, depending on how much they low-ball, tell them you want that plate transfered to the new car and renew the registration on the new car with the existing plate. That'll save $250 for the temp tag. I did it on my 2013 Ford Fusion. I was offered $2,000 on an HHR and the dealership later resold it for $8,000.
