My serpentine belt looks a little wore on top but were the groves are it looks fine. How much longer will it actually last. Someone told me they very seldomly break and myself I've never heard of one breaking. My vehicle has 230000 kms on it and when I bought it it had 200000 kms so I don't know when it was changed last.
Just change it unless you enjoy calling for a tow truck. They're not that expensive or difficult to replace.
The thing is if it breaks you're stuck on the road.
They're not expensive and they're easy to change.
Why not change it now in a place and time of your choosing
instead of letting the belt decide?
you don't replace belts because they break. I mean it could break eventually, but it would take a very long time for that to happen, and it would stop working properly long before that.
You replace belts because the grooves wear out and the belt starts to slip and make a hell of a racket.
however, as others have said, they cheap and small. There's no good reason not to keep one in the trunk.
Yes I am going to get a belt and keep it in my vehicle until this one starts making noise then change it.
Do yourself a favor and replace it. Put the old one in the trunk for a "just in case" spare. Then you'll have a starting point and peace of mind. If it breaks, you lose EVERYTHING!.
Good idea
