Shifted into lower gear, high engine rev.

Hi Scotty, I have a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 10 Speed Auto Transmission and I was going downhill fast while towing so the truck adjusted the gearing from 7th to 4th gear at 56mph. But then I accidentally shifted into 3rd by mistake and the engine revved loud and harder, cruising 56mph. Will that damage the engine/transmission?

  • Thank you.

The ECU wouldn't let you downshift if it will hurt the engine or transmission so nothing was probably harmed. I wouldn't make a habit of it, just because you have that 10-speed that GM and Ford designed together. They're known to have issues.

Those are horribly designed transmissions. It has become a (yet another) Ford scandal.

Ditch the truck while you can.
