98 Toyota 4Runner Ltd automatic 4WD with 182,000 miles.
Before I lift the front of my suv with a hydraulic hand pump jack should I engage to emergency break? The car would already be in park.
And block the tires.

absolutely without a doubt. Also chock the wheels , and back up the jack with a stand or something. You don't want to mess around with 2 ton vehicles, especially if you're getting underneath them. I've witnessed someone get pinned under a car because the car shifted.
