The Buick is a 1981 Century limited Diesel. It is being sold from a private owner. The owner is my second cousin and has a youtube channel called Junkyard Digs and did a revival on the car itself.
Those early GM diesel engines were the engines that gave diesel a bad name in North America. The problem was that diesel engines have to be built more robustly to take the pressure of burning diesel. GM decided to take their gasoline engines and convert them to diesel. They were absolutely biodegradable. Most people ended up doing engine swaps with gasoline engines as they just bolted right in.
Alright good to know!
That would depend on the reason for purchase. But I wouldn't buy one myself.
If you want a cheap knock around car, maybe. For a daily, definitely not.
It would be for going to school and it runs fine and drives great. The owner dropped it off at my place and said drive it for 2 months then see what my awnser is.
What for?
Driving to school.
Make sure you have a backup car just in case.
I always got the bus
If it's cheap enough (<$2000) and runs good and not rusted away and you have the space to store it for fun why not? Just don't use a 40 year old car as a daily, also parts may be harder to come by as well. But there's something cool about having cars from a bygone era
It would be to drive to school. Its under $2000. I found a website that has most parts for it. It aint rusted out really it had a few dents and has some Midwest rust but looks better than 90s Midwest trucks.
buy it drive it
don't worry about it
Haha it drives great! I'm lucky enough that the owner dropped it off and said drive it around for 2 months and see!
is 1981 part of the G M 350 gas into diesel fiasco?
Yeah it is. One of the first Diesels GM ever made.
I remember a friend of mine parking his in the south bronx in a area known for car thefts. The place was littered with stripped cars. He left the keys in the ignition. He reported it stolen. Two days later the NYPD called him up and said they had found his car. It was fully intact right where he left it. Even the car thiefs new better. In cold weather we would hold a lit brazing torch in the intake so it would start with warm air. I remember the battery cables went on fire when the started shorted. It needed two batteries to start it. It was a horror. He traded it in when it was 5 years old for a chevy pickup and got for $50.00 for it. The salesman said the only reason were are taking it is because you drove it here under it's own power.
Wow!
