Private dealer was asking 1,234 but now taking the best offer. 147,167 miles with a manual transmission. He say it’s overheating so I was thinking bout taking my mechanic 2 look at it and offer him around $500-1000 and fixing the overheating problem myself if it’s not 2 bad. And taking a blown head gasket kit 2 make sure the head gasket ain’t blown
Could be just a stuck thermostat (tap gently on the housing with a hammer to see if it opens) but smart to test for a blown head gasket.
Yea that’s what I was going to and if it were too have more problems I can selling it too a junkyard and at least get half of my money back
I think you have a the right idea. Have mechanic evaluate it, and if you're handy, and the deficiency list is manageable, then for less than a months wage you could have a car that'll last a few years.
Just be realistic about the repairs. Budget double the amount of time and money that you think it'll take.
I wouldn't recommend buying cars that have problems in the first place because you don't know how many problems you need to fix.
Understandable but someone can easily say the car has no problem and has a thousand problems
Well, you can always check any vehicle out by a mechanic. If the owner doesn't want you to check out their vehicle, you know something is up.
Could you explain to me what a private dealer is? Thanks.
Someone that’s selling their personal car that’s not a dealership
That would be called a private party like it asks for in the first paragraph of the web page.
Ok my bad on that
