Should I buy a 2011 hyundai sonata with only 11,000 miles on it for $11,500.00? Im in the market for a new used car as my prius has a bad hybrid battery that im working on, but need a reliable car. The hyundai is for sale on fb in upstate ny near where i live said its was mother in laws car that she didnt drive much. Doenst list the engine type or size i can just see it looks like a 4 cyl auto and say gdi on the engine cover. Has a few bumps and dings but over all looks good. Any thoughts?
First of all, 11K miles over 13+ years is suspicious. That's less than 850 miles per year!
Secondly, according to carcomplaints.com the 2011 Sonata has by far the most complaints of any other model year, more than three times that of the next/second worst year Sonata.
According to them: "Regarding the worst model year 2011 Hyundai Sonata engine problems, "The 2011 Sonata has a seriously defective engine that seizes without warning. It was awarded the dubious honor of being the first CarTalk / CarComplaints Turd of the Week in late September 2015."

I would advise you to spend your hard-earned $11,500 on a more reliable Toyota or Honda (even though for the same price, the mileage will be higher).
