hey scotty i have been offered a chevy s10 extended bed for 300$ needs a new engine and transmission im thinking of replacing it with another 350 would it be worth on my end to invest the money? plan on using it on a daily basis for riding around
It would be a long, pricey road to turn that into a daily driver.
How much work does the suspension, electrical system, etc. need? Has it been sitting unused? How extensive are your monarchical skills - have you removed/replaced engines and have an engine lift available?
Sounds more like a hobby project than daily transportation (and you'll need something to drive for the 2-3 months it will take. Plan on a lot of parts-buying/gathering trips).
Not trying to be discouraging, but I've been involved in a few f these projects, and they are not as easy and cheap as they appear when you start!
i dont have much experiance however my uncle does and he is willing to help its been sitting for about 18-24 months in his backyard when it was parked the transmission was slipping hard its an automatic and the motor was slightly knocking it was parked with a quarter tank and was cranked every once in a while and left running up until it ran out of gas
Consider:
You're going to end up sinking $10,000 into this thing, and countless hours. When you start driving it daily, somebody T-bones you. Insurance offers you some chump change for it.
For a daily, look elsewhere and newer also! If it was a project vehicle that you really wanted to get your hands dirty on and build up/restore over time, then that’s a different story.
With the amount of money you would put into this you should look for a newer truck. Whether it be a $3000 one or a $10,000 as long as it runs good a mechanic says it is fine I would say there are many trucks that would be good as a daily driver. I don't think it would be worth the time, money, and effort.
