Should I buy this 2005 Mustang?

I am checking out a 2005 Mustang. It’s a private sale, and the owner is providing that there are two issues (codes). It’s 100,000 miles. V6

They are: p0403 and p0463 (EGR Circuit Fault; fuel level sensor high input).

He’s asking a pretty low price for it, so I was obviously going to test drive, and bring my mechanic with his scanner to verify. Does anybody have experience on this, is it probably just the tip of the iceberg or is it fairly common to fix?

Seeing as how the thing is nearly 20 years old that could be just the tip of the iceberg. I would not recommend buying a car with active codes or major problems in the data.

Codes usually have multiple possible causes and on an old car you can be in for a wild goose chase tracking down the fault. If you proceed be sure your mechanic doesn't just pull codes but also analyze data and give the car a thorough examination before purchase. (That's something that needs to be done for any used vehicle purchase.)

I would be pretty skeptical of this deal. He's asking a low price for a reason.

@justin-shepherd I am, I’m definitely not going to nose dive into it. He’s asking $5K and at least cosmetically it looks good.

I know the codes typically can be as simple as a bad EGR valve, but could be a mix of exhaust/emission system.

But regardless, my mechanic would inspect and tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes the forums give me enough to go “alright don’t even bother”
