Hey Scotty,
I love your channel and SO appreciate all of your knowledge that you so graciously share! I just got an 86 Toyota Pickup 2wd with 112k miles. I'm curious if I should change the automatic transmission fluid or not. I've heard that changing AT fluid on higher mileage vehicles can damage the transmission but have also heard you mention that it is very important to change AT fluid every 60-80k.
Just curious what your take on this specific situation is.
Thanks so much!
Ryan
Changing fluid cannot damage a transmission. (it might make existing problems more noticeable). 112,000 miles is not high mileage. If your transmission is working normally, then treat it as usual and change the fluid as required. The fluid should be replaced when it wears out, or else the transmission will start to wear out.
