[Solved] Should I Flush My Cooling System on my Ford?

I recently took my 2022 Ford Edge 2.0 Ecoboost 8 speed automatic with 35,000 miles to the dealer for a recall and the service advisor told me that I need to flush my cooling system. I declined, because I didn't think I needed it. Should I return to have this service done? My car has 35,000 miles and it's never been flushed before.

Googling Motorcraft Yellow Coolant, which is the coolant in your car, is designed to last 10 years, or 200k miles. Personally, I would never let the same coolant be in that engine for 10 years. Regardless, the dealership is trying to pull a fast one on you. If you want to be proactive, change coolant every 5-7 years, and you'll be just fine.

@justin-shepherd Ok, good to know that I can wait. a few years. Car is only 2.5 years old. Thanks again!

Coolant generally lasts between 3 and 7 years or a limited number of miles, whichever occurs first. Cars like my 1999 Ranger have green coolant, and is intended to last for three years, or 30k miles. The specifics for your car are in your owner's manual. If it's time to change your coolant, you can easily do it yourself. The dealership is trying to upsell you.

Good call. From your owners manual page 352 your Ford has Motorcraft Yellow Prediluted Antifreeze (WSS-M97B57-A2) which is designed to have an initial change-out at 10 years or 200,000 miles and every 5 years or 100,000 miles thereafter.

I personally wouldn't wait the entire 10 years or 200K miles, however @justin-shepherd nailed this one - that dealer only wants to lighten your wallet.
