Should I service my transmission? I own a 2016 F-150 5.0 V8 engine with 152K miles; for the most part my Truck drives perfectly, no codes and I do oil changes myself, plus I check fluids regularly. That being said every once in awhile my transmission will not shift into the next gear for awhile before going up to much higher RPM's than usual and then eventually shifting and then go on with out a problem for days or sometimes even weeks. I really want this truck to last as long as possible and don't want to have to repair/replace any major components but I'm worried over many things I've heard from replacing the transmission fluid and it making the problem worse; or Will it actually be better to replace the fluid and filter, gasket, ect? or Am I out of luck and is transmission going to fail regardless and it's all a waist of time and money? Would really love to hear your thoughts on this matter, Thank You!
Here's the problem. If the fluid has never been changed, I would leave it alone because changing really dirty fluids. A fresh new slippery fluid often makes them stop working entirely. If you know the records and it's been changed, say every 50/60,000 mi you can go change it again but if not I would leave it alone because you're probably on your last legs. Anyway, that's generally how long they last in those vehicles
