Looking for advice!
I have a 2016 VW Jetta 1.4 TSI, automatic transmission with 35,000 miles. I've heard VWs maintenance can be pretty costly, so wondering if I should trade it in for a more reliable car before it gets up in miles?
I've had 3-4 recalls that have all been handled, but no issues otherwise. KBB says trade in is between $9k-$10k in current condition.
I'm not really a car guy but wanting to be more responsible in my vehicle ownership for the future. Thanks!
Well it seams like you don't drive much - under 6,000 miles a year.
So at the current pace, over 15 years to get to 100,000 miles.
Although the 1.4 TSI is a crap engine, a lot of these came with the 09G transmission - If yours is one of those, that's an Aisin unit, not some stinking DSG and that's a plus.
Assuming you're going to drive this little, bough it new, and maintain if well and frequently (4.5k miles engine, 30k-40k transmission) - I genuinely wouldn't bother (because of the low resale value!)
It depends how long do you plan to keep a car.
