My grandpa has a long held belief that you should always turn off the AC before turning off the engine. I looked it up some people say yes you should cause it could damage the battery and strain the engine, compressor, and evaporator among other things. Others say no and from what I can tell neither of the groups are mechanics or really know about cars to that level. What is the right answer? I honor my grandfather's wish to turn it off regardless but will this really cause a problem if you continually forget to turn off the AC before turning off the engine?
Thank you in advance.

It depends on the age of the vehicle:
For modern cars, it isn't necessary to turn off the AC before shutting the vehicle off.
