Good afternoon everyone hope all is well. So there's been a debate with from friends and family should you drive your vehicle with engine cover on or off? What does everyone here say about it? I know Senor Kilmer refers to it as plastic crap but I mean... what's the difference with it on or off? Does leaving it off improve cooling? Me I've driven my Grand Cherokee with the engine cover off since last month.

If you live in Alaska, it might be somewhat beneficial in having the engine warm up quicker. Other than that, Scotty calls them "stupid beauty covers." It's useless. My Mustang is a 2017 V6 and doesn't have that, fortunately. My wife's Mustang is an EcoBoost, also a 2017, and they put the beauty cover that shows off it's an EcoBoost engine. They made it like it's some huge deal. It's not.

Oh okay

Removing the cover on the Grand Cherokee does not pose any issues that I was able to find.

However, every car should be researched before removing the cover.

I believe the new Toyota 4-cylinder Turbo engines use the engine cover to direct air to flow over the turbocharger that is located in the back of the engine.

Alright. I was told by someone the air intake would draw in all the hot air but I found it hard to believe cause I mean... I will say it does feel cooler where all the heat doesn't hit your face plus I noticed the oil temperature stays warmer longer on cold days.

When I had my BMW X5, I took it in to a BMW mechanic who had the same car. And he ran his car WITHOUT the beauty cover. I kept mine on. And they both seemed fine either way.

The only thing it does it make the engine look pretty, IMHO. Maybe some sound deadening on higher end cars.

Thumbs up

Do what you want

Apparently, the new thing is making stuff as fancy as possible under the hood. I remember in high school almost 17 years ago, there were Cadillac commercials bragging about how sleek they were under the hood. Lots and lots of plastic. Haha. I like stuff that looks mechanical, personally.

It doesn't matter.
