silicone spray for air filter and air cleaner

hi scotty,  i was looking through you tube videos and one channel claims spraying lightly silicone on air filter and filter in the car interior the one inside glove box  is good for car .. he claims that it will prevent fine dirt that passes through the filters normally is  caught in the filter . He does mention you might have to change the filters more often but its better  to get the dirt in  filter , rather than passing through standard filter..   whats your take.   bob in montreal

Carlos has it right.  Spraying anything, particularly on your intake air filter will mess up your MAF.

No. Filters are designed to work optimally as they are. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

No need to do any of that, just use the proper filter (OEM usually) that came with the vehicle and call it a day.  Also, be sure to check on it from time to time (very easy to do).

No.  Silicone and other chemicals in the spray are contaminants to air flow sensors. 

Could make things much worse.
