Smells like fuel on cold starts

Hey guys, I have a 06 V6 Accord with 188k. On cold starts (in cold temperatures °30 e g.) I smell a lot of fuel and it lingers for maybe 10 minutes AT MOST but once engine is at operating temperature it goes away, only does it when I first crank her up first thing in the morning. Is it anything I got to worry about?

Thanks!

Well it depends on where the fuel smell is coming from. Time to follow your nose! If the smell is coming from your tailpipe then you likely have excess fuel left in the cylinder when you shut it off and when you start her up it burn off all the excess fuel at once and that's usually caused by your fuel injectors being dirty and dripping fuel instead of spraying it. Run a bottle of fuel system cleaner and if it doesn't get better have your injectors checked and cleaned if needed.

Otherwise if the smell is coming from the tailpipe it could be your CAT in your exhaust might be worn but if your CAT is worn the smell likely wouldn't go away as it warms up and just constantly smell like fuel all the time.

The only other thing that could cause that smell is a leak in your EVAP system but again if the EVAP was leaking it likely wouldn't go away after you warm it up and instead just smell like fuel all the time or when you go to fill up and the smell wouldn't be coming from your exhaust and instead just around the vehicle in general towards the gas tank.

Very interesting information! I'll try the fuel system cleaner first and see if that solves the issue. The scent comes and goes once it's warmed up so I don't think it should be the other 2 things you mentioned but I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Which Fuel System Cleaner should I get? I know Scotty isn't a huge fan of Seafoam brand..

Watch Scotty's video he just posted. He talks about your problem.

check your fuel pressure regulator leak if any

Call me crazy but does the V6 model for that generation have a FPR? I've been looking like mad but all I keep seeing is 2.4s? Maybe I'm not trying hard enough.
