Oh no. Someone trying to get their video watched by trolling a successful YouTube personality. Whatever shall we do?

Oh yeah. Not watch it. Sorry, but no click from me. {black}:gape:

I watch or listen to a number of sources, such as South Main Auto, Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics, thecarcarenut (a Master Toyota Diagnostician, and a natural teacher), Toyota Maintenance YouTube Channel, Eric The Car Guy, even some of the DIY repair videos from 1auto. And, for many years, I've been listening to The Automotive Hour podcast. And, of course, Scotty. Each have different strengthens and limitation. I learn from all.

To an extent this term is true of almost all of us: Homo Duplex. It's a term that is meant to highlight two basic elements in human personality: Selflessness (the desire to help others) and Selfishness.

I don't know what Scotty is like in his private life and I have no desire to know. But his public persona (the word comes from the Greek term for mask) very much highlights this duality. He has a sincere desire to help and an equally strong pull toward self-promotion. There's complexity, there's issues around authority (perhaps picked up from the 1960s and 1970s, something I would know about given we're in the same generational cohort), and the desire (that I share), for enabling self-empowerment against those who would exploit. And yes, he sometimes makes mistakes and contradicts himself. So, it's a layered picture, human, like the rest of us, with something to offer, but what is offered requires some discrimination, some testing against reality, at times.

I ignore the too frequent political inferences, take in what he says, triangulate it with multiple sources that I find credible and move my own way.

In sum: There is the potential for serious critique of Scotty that could be produced, particularly as the self-made media figure that he obviously is. But it's not that excerable production that was posted.

I have to give you the gold medal on this one, I felt like what you wrote was my own thoughts for a second, but then again my ability to express those thoughts, as you know, aren't that good grammatically or for simplicities sake.

Thanks. The way to improve as a writer has two main elements. 1. Read skilled writers and 2. Keep on writing. I'm confident that you will do both.

Sounds good, I'll scan through all your answers and write them w/ pencil and paper and copy them 10 times each. See'ya in the morning.

this is old news.

It's also a very poorly done product, in terms of text and audio narration combined with choppy, incoherent video. As a piece of agit-prop, well, the video is an embarrassment.

I agree. I don't have a problem with constructive criticism, but this is a very poorly done critique, if that's the intention. He just ends up sounding like a whiny, squeeky 15 year old with very annoying sound effects. It's unlistenable, and he only ends up proving that he'll never live up to Scotty.

I'm reminded of the video Scotty did recently when he says people whine too much instead of being helpful.

IMHO, with fullest respect,

he's right in some regards. That is the clickbait BUT I honestly don't care and have left my opinions on this on other clickbait threads which you can find by searching it. Its fine.

It has become a trend for Scotty to put false details in his video, but hey he's human. Maybe a little bit of hypocracy here and there but don't want to stir things up.

I watch Scotty because he is honest and sincere. If you want technical details on modern stuff, go find that somewhere else. Scotty is a mechanic, and a pretty good one.

I think there is a lot of exaggeration and deception involved on both sides and I think that someone might be able to find a good arguement to say Scotty isn't good at a certain aspect, but they can't do it, and it seems that there is too much debate that is unncessary and time consuming so I'll see you all later.

This video has been shared before and the responses gotten were pretty much along the lines of "this guy doesn't know what he is talking about and what a waste of time."

Ehh, well, haters gonna hate. Dude sounds jealous. Scotty is just a normal human and occasionally gets stuff wrong. Because he's a human and not a robot. Nobody is perfect, even our beloved Scotty as much as we'd prefer to think that he is. All humans are infallible at times. Scotty has saved me tons of money over the past 6 months since I started watching his videos. He's really just trying to help people not get scammed or ripped off, because to me, he seems like a decent, caring, honest person. He doesn't really contradict himself so much as he simply learns and adjusts and changes his opinions over time. I think his click baity titles are absolutely hilarious. He also keeps up with all the recalls and lawsuits, that knowledge is absolutely invaluable. I will continue tuning in, as long as he remains on YouTube. I absolutely love Scotty and would be honored to meet him some day.

Also, I love his distrust of government. The Libertarian in me is absolutely thrilled 😄😄
