[Solved] Sometimes my car cranks too long before it starts

Got a 2020 Toyota Wigo (Im from the Philippines) car also known as a Daihatsu Agya/Ayla
It's a 1L 3 cyclinder economy hatch

It's relatively new, 16months old with 28000 kilometers (17k miles)

Battery when fully loaded (all lights, AC on) still reads at 13.6volts so i assume the battery/alternator is good

But approximately, once in 2 weeks, i have a hard time starting it, even engine is already warmed up, example i start in cold in the morning no problem at all, then at lunch it just takes an extra 2-3 seconds before i release the switching of the key as it starts.

I hope this isnt a major problem. It barely happens, Im just worried as my car is less than 2 years old.

When i start my car i have a good reflex on timing so i just turn the key acc, ign, engine on then release in a certain timely manner, thats why when it takes a hard time to start i sometimes release it even the engine hasnt started yet.

Any thoughts?

Isn’t this car still under factory warranty? Has the dealer already tried diagnosing it?

Are there any outstanding recalls for the car wrt the fuel system?

Is the engine air filter verified clean & not clogged?

Also, from personal experience, some batteries in that region give up the ghost after 12 months. I’d get both the battery & alternator load tested.

Toyota dealers are arent that nice to customers. Before I use to bring my car for oil changes, then i noticed they didnt change it, even the oil filter was changed even its on my receipt of what i paid for. Here in the Philippines you can complain all you want and after a long and tiring effort you are lucky if you get anything done, we dont SUE people here, it costs too much.

There are no recalls, tho this model is relatively new, first launch was in 2014, but all my friends that have the same car didnt have any major issue.
With the battery, its not maintenance free, you have to add water from time to time, but usually it last 2-3 years according from our car group.

I assume the battery is fine as I drive it 60miles everyday at minimum, but i guess i'll just have it load tested. Thanks again mate!

Wow. That’s not good.. Check the air filter & fuel filter too. Is your fuel efficiency affected at all?

Yea, and the most honest mechanic i've know is scotty haha. Air filter was last changed 10000 kilometers ago approx maybe 4months ago, fuel filter is new, i buy OEM denso filters. about my fuel consumption, i say i get lower compared to others with the same car as i tend to drive a bit fast, i normally get 16kilometers per liter, in your books that would be 39miles per gallon, but basically, its pretty good enough its only a 3cyclinder with 70hp, i will update you once i get my battery tested. thanks

I have rented the 1.0L Agya and 16kpl is excellent. At such low mileage and being a new car, it shouldn’t be anything major. Maybe inspect the spark plugs and change them (if they’re still the original copper ones), since I believe they’re due for change every 20,000 kms in the SE Asian market.
