Spark plugs

Hey Scotty. I’m changing spark plugs on a 2000 Camry and when I put the socket in to grab the plug it feels like a rubber gasket of some sort Is blocking it. I tried pulling out all the other spark plugs and they all have the same problem, a circle gasket that blocks the socket from grabbing the plug. What should I do? Thanks!

Make sure that

- you're using the correct size socket.

- the rubber insert is pushed all the way to bottom of the sockets.

- Your socket goes on perfectly straight. The tip of the plug should fit into the hole in the middle of the rubber insert. Press firmly. It will grip the plug and pull it out when you've loosened it completely.

If you're having trouble getting it started then remove the insert at first, and then put it back on once you've got it started. Or loosen off the plug completely, and then jam a piece of rubber hose over the end of it and use that to pull it out. Or you need deeper sockets.

Good luck.
