Hi scotty big fan from the Philippines. Have a honda crv 1999 almost 400,000 km.
My speed sensor burned out it is melted from the socket. It tripped the alternator fuse. I replaced the fuse and cut off the socket in order to return home. What cause for the melted speed sensor. And what damage could have done to my vehicle.

First, be sure that you used a 7.5 amp fuse when you made the emergency "repair" to get home.
You may have had to grab any available spare fuse to get home, so now make sure you have the right fuse in there.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) How the Circuit Works
With the ignition switch in ON or START, battery voltage is supplied through fuse 15.
Power comes from the fuse through the BLK/WHT wire. It goes to a wire connector and becomes a BLK/YEL wire which goes to your vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
The sensor is grounded by the BLK wire.
The speedometer and other control units in the circuit supply about 5 volts to the BLU/WHT wire.
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) intermittently grounds the BLU/WHT wire which generates a pulsed signal in it.
The number of pulses per minute increases/decreases with the speed of the car.
Fuse #15 fried and the damage seems to be right at the speed sensor so inspect the wire connector on the speed sensor carefully.
Check the back side, where the wires go into that connector, to see if any insulation has deteriorated and bare wires may be touching each other.
Check the terminals on the other side of the connector for corrosion or damage.
If you don't find any problem there, follow the wires back, paying close attention to anywhere that BLK/YEL wire could be either "shorting out" on the engine or chassis, or possibly shorting to a ground wire.

Since it tripped the fuse, you have electric short circuit. You should figure it out before putting a new sensor. Regarding the damage, nothing really happened.
