Speedometer Re-Calibration

Topic starter

Scotty I've got a 2013 Ford with 101,000 miles F150 4X4 3.5 Liter Ecoboost Engine with the 6 speed Automatic Transmission and have gotten new tires for my truck and am wondering how to recalibrate my speedometer without buying a $300 tool or taking it to a shop and getting raked over the coals for something simple like this.

Thanks Again

Use a GPS speedometer

If you bought the OEM tyre size, your speedometer should still be accurate.

If you upsized the tyres, just use an aftermarket or app based GPS speedometer.

Larger than stock tires will make your speedometer read slow.  If the new tires are say, 10% larger than stock, when your speedo reads 50mph, you're actually going 55mph.  Just add 10% to your speedo reading and it will be pretty accurate.

When the officer asks ‘How fast were you going?’
