You can tell your uncle that the only economy he helped is Mexican (manufacturing) and Dutch (Stellantis, owners of Jeep), and that it's a terrible vehicle and he can expect serious problems with it. He could have found this all himself with about 5 minutes of internet research.

Your uncle needs to understand that cars with foreign nameplates frequently are built here and have more North American content than those from GM, Ford, or Chrysler. Car manufacturing is a global business. (A friend of mine has a Subaru built in Indiana. Another has a Ford made in Brazil and still another a Buick made in China. So who has the American car?)

At least with the manual transmission on his Compass that's one less thing he has to worry about but modern Jeeps still have lots of other problem areas. (Unfortunately the Compass is one of Jeep's worst models.)

None of the FCA products are good (with the exception of maybe their heavy duty trucks 2500 HD and above), and if he cares about longevity and driving till the wheels fall off, well then he made a mistake.  Even though it’s a manual, the rest of the vehicle has a higher propensity to fall apart with time and mileage.  How many times has Scotty warned us against buying FCA products?  When these companies screw the consumers and don’t stand by their products, why should we keep supporting them?
