Sport Shifting to Slow 2008 Subaru Outback Down

I have a 2008 Subaru Outback with 100,000 miles, base 2.5i engine and automatic transmission.

I downshift using the sport shifting mode to slow the car and not use the brakes as much. I've kept the transmission fluid fresh. Understanding that brakes are cheaper than transmission, am I wearing excessively/damaging the transmission? Should I stop this? Is it OK to do this at any level?

Why do you do that? You are putting extra strain on your transmission and considering the fact that the automatic transmission of Subaru’s are weak points, you should stop doing that if you don’t want to rebuild the transmission early.
