I have a 2004 Cadillac SRX. When I turn the key I hear a click and car starts. However, sometimes especially when not used much I turn key there is no click, no turnover and key gets stuck in ignition because of security. I have to jump start from fuse box to get key out. Frustrated as to why car does not click sometimes and therefore does not turn over. Last year I replaced the gas cap and that seemed to cure. Now I have car off road and same problem. Is it fuel pressure problem? loose wire in a harness? I am pretty sure not starter or ECM. Thanks. There are many blogs from SRX, CTS owners on this. Alan from Canada.
Battery issue or possibly the alternator issue. Load test both of them for free at Autozones.
Battery, alternator and starter all work. I can jump from starter relay so its something between ignition and starter. No start no crank I hear no clicks. But when it does start I hear a click which is probably relay and fuel pump. I have checked and swapped fuses and relays. Car will start after trying 10 minutes later but after 15 minutes or half and hour, no go.
I still think you need to load test them. They may be weak that’s Why they can not work fine.
I have a multimeter and battery shows 13.2 v without load also when I turn key headlights come on full without dimming. I also tried my battery charger on 'start' mode and would not crank. WIll have alternator tested and go from there, but I think alternator
works because when car starts vehicle DIC shows battery now 14.7 volts so to me alternator must be working. Thank you.
Failing ignition module.
Is ignition module easy to access and would new one need programming? I dont think I want to replace ECM because others have done it without problem being corrected.
Plug and play.
Thanks for the info I will look into. Would an advanced OBD2 scanner show this fault? I just have a base one and just shows the universal U0100
