I have a 08 Honda Civic Si with about 107K miles standard transmission. When is a good time to change the clutch? No issues with shifting there is some grind on third gear. Other than that everything seems fine. Should I change the clutch or wait until I notice something more serious.
I would not worry about the clutch for now. I'm more concerned on the grind noise you mentioned in the 3rd gear.
If you are getting a grinding noise when shifting into 3rd, but not he other gears, it's an indication that the synchros are wearing out. When was the last time you changed the trans gear oil?
If you haven't changed your transmission oil do so and see if it helps with the grinding. Chances are though the synchro on that gear is wearing out. You might also try double-clutching when going into third to relieve stress on the synchronizer.
Be sure to use Honda MTL unless Honda specifies something else for your specific model. Really good stuff, I use it in my own manual trans cars even though none of them are Hondas. I was in a NAPA store yesterday and was surprised to see they had Honda MTL on the shelf. Usually I buy it at a Honda dealer or online.
As far as the clutch, if it's engaging smotthly, not slipping, and there is no noise from the throwout or pilot bearings there is no need to change it.
