[Solved] starter relay wiring

1995 ford ranger xl Manual 230k miles

Im picking up this truck as a project to get running again after sitting around for 3+ years.

Ive gone thru and replaced old fluids (oil, trans, clutch, brakes)

Went to place a battery in and immediately after putting the neg cable on, a gray wire from the starter relay (right behind the battery) went red hot and popped. Doesn't looked like any of the fused popped in the engine bay.

Trying to trace where that wire goes to and find out why that happened. The wire is severed now so id need to replace or solder on a new section. Already trying to look at wiring diagrams but cant find a gray wire and a reason why would be helpful

Took some more time to look at it and its a 12guage fuse link and it runs to the alternator with split to a harness under the brake booster. Still not sure why it happened but I can see where it leads. Will do some research on replacing the fuse link.

Bump.

Of course if things are half so you can always rewire the starter directly from the ignition switch to the starter
