Starting Issues After Normal Daily Operation

Hi Scotty

Thanks for the videos, I enjoy watching and learning from them.

I own a 2003 Volkswagen Polo Classic 1.6 Manual Petrol Engine (BAH) (258 000KM /160 000 Miles ), when I start it for the first time every day, it starts and runs with no issues.

When I come home in the evening and let it sit for an hour then decide to drive to the shop it refuses to start on the first attempt, the second attempt it starts but it idles badly and dies.

The third attempt it starts, I can even out the rpm with a little gas, a puff of white smoke comes out the exhaust and I can briefly smell the gas then runs smooth again.

(NEW) In addition to that sometimes it starts revving up between 2 - 3000 rpm before going down to normal idle rpm again. (Dances up and down)

Once you get it to normal idle it runs fine again.

You can also turn it off and start it back up with no issues after this, seems like you have to get the engine hot first and let it sit for a while for this to happen.

I suspect that it might be the fuel injectors, this weekend I will remove the fuel rail with the injectors then pressurize the fuel system and check for a leak.

This evening I pulled the spark plugs, they had black deposits on them and smelled like gas.

NOTE: I had this problem before I replaced the spark plugs.

Hope you can point me in the right direction, thank you!

Well it's flooding out. It's getting too much fuel so either you have leaking fuel injectors or leaking fuel pressure regulator something's dumping too much gas and when it's hot. Now a cold engine doesn't care extra. Fuel makes it start better but once an engine is warmed up and you get smoke like that and then have to rev it up to get it running in your flooded out
