Hi Scotty, I forgot to ask in my other post with the 97 pathfinder 4wd steering issue, when I first drive off after the vehicle is started I hear a noise followed by a vibration. It only does it once after vehicle is started and you drive off. And its on the driver side
Is that the power steering pump? Thats on the driver side
Or air in power steering system?
If I were to drive off after starting and press the brakes hard when the vibration noise occurs you hear and feel a bang in the left driver wheel.
Its a weird issue im not sure about. And its hard to explain. Sounds like if something is engaging?
Those have auto loving hubs I believed it shouldn’t be engaging as long as your in 2wd but it’s a place to look if the hub is dragging or sticking
How do I go about checking that? Thanks
That was supposed to say auto locking 🤦🏻♂️
Spin the wheel with it off the ground. I. Two wheel drive there shouldn’t really be any drag. Or put it into 4wd and see if it still does it. Just don’t continue driving in 4wd if the roads aren’t bad because that can do more damage
I dont use the the 4wd much. Only when driving in snow packed roads. Other than that its not used.
What do you recommend as a repair for that issue?
Just to disassemble the hub and check the bearing and race for any pitting. If it’s clean you can just repack it with grease and replace the seal
Gotcha! Thank you for the help, I'll try that out.
It’s actually the ABS system doing self test. Does it around 4mph after every initial startup. States it in the manual you will hear a buzzing noise and even a thump in break pedal if it happened to be pressed during this self test.
