Hi Scottie Have a 2001 Chevy cavalier rear drum brakes on the passenger side seem to be sticking with again what could be the cause that could it be the backing plate or could it be the wheel cylinder?

That will frequently happen if the wheel cylinder leaks onto the brake shoes. It can also be caused by a bad brake hose. If the contact points on the backing plate are severely worn the shoes could get out of alignment and stick. Any or all of those could be the case on a 21-year-old Cavalier. You need to take the brake drum off and see what's going on in there.

There are a lot of moving parts in a drum brake system and they get all crudded up and need cleaning and lubrication.  All kinds of springs and levers.  As @chucktobias said, you have to pull the drum to see what's up.  Could just be a stuck parking brake cable or a leaky slave cylinder.
