stripped threads on engine.

Well I've done it now. I have 3 bolts that have broken off inside the slots of the ?upper head? (the thing where the rocker arms live).

I tried the removal tools I bought, none of which have ever worked for me, but I always have hope.  Nope, stripped the threads.  They are pretty embedded in there and still can't get them out.  What do I do now to get them out and get something in them at least long enough to drive it to the shop?  Also, if I continue to try myself, can I get a size up bolt and rethread the area with a different size?

Thanks Scotty

Best way I know of is to weld a nut on the inside to the broken off bolt, then back it out with a socket.  The heat of the weld will usually break it free.

I am afraid to do that because the broken piece is recessed. I think I would end up welding it to the threds, that is unless I don't know what I'm doing, which I don't.

I can't get the pic on here.  to large.  when I try to make it lower kb's it won't transfer.  I will continue to try but this may take me a bit.  Sorry.  I hope you are still here or come back later once I figure this out.

You need to upload your photo(s) to a file sharing site like imgur.com or imgbox.com etc. and post the link here.

You can try downsizing the image.

I'm guessing the engine is presently in the car? Aluminum heads?

Yep, sure is. Just sitting under the hood taunting me. And yes,, Aluminum heads. The broken off bolts go to the valve cover, they have that lip and the rubber and the metal top on them

got photos?

sorry for the poor quality.  All I have is my phone camera, but these should give you an idea of what I'm trying to fix.

Hmmm... can't figure out how to add pic's.  Give me a moment
