I have a 2000 S10 pickup truck with 2.2 l injection in automatic transmission rear wheel drive. I have been trying for days to free the stuck fuel pressure regulator even though I have unthreaded the sleeve holding it in place and I have greatly loosened the mounting bolt fastener that holds it in place on the rail and the rail is also disconnected from the fuel line. Now the rail is bolted onto the intake but I would still think with the amount of play that there should be on that fuel line that is the return line I'd be able to set it free but I can't. It is stuck there and from what I can tell even taking the bolts out from the fuel rail won't make it any easier to pull it. Are there any suggestions? Has anybody else had trouble with the fuel pressure regulator not wanting to come out?
If you removed the attaching screw (#1) then the only thing sticking is the O ring (#3).
If you aren't trying to reuse the regulator, smack it with a hammer in the 12 O'clock, 6 O'clock, 3 O'clock. and 9 O'clock positions while pulling up on it until it comes loose.
The O ring has been in there for 24 years and it's probably deteriorated and dried up and sticking in the fuel rail.
But when these fail it's because the diaphragm is ruptured and you'll have either gasoline in the vacuum line or the smell of gasoline in the vacuum line.
You may want to give it a sniff
