Stumbling Sentra

2007 Sentra 2.0, 115k

The problem is a temporary stumbling (near stall) about 10-15 seconds after a cold start.

After starting, there is the typical 1,500 rpm fast idle. But about 10 seconds later the rpm drops prematurely to 8-9,000 rpm and the engine sputters.  This condition lasts about 10 seconds, then recovers to normal operation.

My basic scan tool shows that during this sputter condition, the short term fuel trims drop quickly to -25, and then recovers back to near 0.

Also, I notice the MAF reading begins dropping with the rpm's at first, but then increases as if the rpm's are back around 1,500.

Any ideas?

Well was that fuel trim? That means it's running super rich which floods the engine out. So have the fuel injectors check first. Might have a leaking fuel injector
