[Solved] Subaru 5EAT automatic transmission

Technical question : Subaru 5EAT automatic transmission requires a fluid with Viscosity Index of 183, like Idemitsu ATF type HP, according to the owner's manual. Can I put in the transmission the Valvoline Multi Vehicle ATF, with Viscosity Index of 153? What could go wrong?

My car is a 2011 Subaru Tribeca with 100k miles.

Thank you.

Just get the OEM spec.

my personal experiences with trying non oem fluids have never went well…

you can try non matching fluids but chances are you’re just going to burn out your transmission. The 5EAT is super sensitive to oil pressure and is known for burning its friction packs…

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS with transmission fluid especially. Stick to exactly the manufacturer specs. Fluid is cheap, transmissions are not. I would never use that multi vehicle transmission fluid in any transmission ever.
