Subaru coolant leak

Topic starter

My mom’s 2014 Subaru Outback is starting to leak coolant from the bypass hose, however I can’t seem to find a part for it anywhere. It has 140k miles and the only reason why I know it’s leaking is because of a dye I put in the cooling system to locate the leak. Can anyone help me?

i believe that hose underneath the a/c compressor is leaking, but considering it’s under the compressor it’s hard to fix.

Where have you looked? Have you tried a Subaru parts department? They should at least be able to look it up on their parts diagrams and give you a part number. You may also be able to identify the part via a diagram at an online parts source, such as:

(You did not state which engine the car has but that looks like a 4-cylinder intake in the photo.)

If the hose is leaking it needs to be replaced, regardless of the difficulty level. Anything that's in the way will have to be moved. If you don't feel confident in doing the job take the car to a good independent mechanic.

Unfortunately our usual online repair resource (charm.li) does not list 2014 Outback, but they do list 2013 which is of the same generation and should be substantially similar:

@chucktobias I just made a video showing the leak in more detail. Does this video help narrow down what the problem could be?

Sure looks like the hose, or possibly the housing (thermostat?) that it's connected to. You need to get in there for a better look at what's going on.

My mom’s 2014 Subaru Outback

4 cyl?

6 cyl?

@imperator 4 cyl non-turbo and no I haven’t called them yet but I’ll give that a shot. I just couldn’t find any part online whatsoever that would fit that specific engine.
