Hi Scotty,

Could you give me your opinion about a new 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?  This generation came out in 2018…has it been a reliable generation?   I have heard that the fb20 engine this car comes with can/may have oil consumption issues.   Have you seen your customers have these problems?  Any other reliability issues of note.  Thanks.

They are usually pretty reliable in those engines are good. The old engines had problems but that was decades ago

It can be a fun decent car to drive.

My daughter has a 2018 with the CVT and it’s well over 100,000 miles without a problem. And the manual has less reliability risk than the CVT.

The current gen Crosstrek has its disadvantages: slow, noisy, cheap-looking cabin, that kind of stuff.  And I believe the manual only comes on the lower trims with the smaller engine (?FB20). But reliability is fine.  The 2L engine is really slow, so test drive one before you buy, but is near bombproof.  Maintenance and repairs are easy to do yourself, and parts are inexpensive.

Its a great little car.  Roomier than it looks, very functional, and great in foul weather. As long as you know what you’re getting you won’t regret it.

Cheers, and welcome new member!
