Hi Scotty,
I bought a 2012 Subaru Forester with a blown head gasket (it was cheap), so I'm fixing it and have the engine out of the car right now. I'm gonna get the heads resurfaced and will change all the manifold gaskets and everything as I'm disassembling the head. Just wondering what else I should change while I have the engine out (without spending a fortune)? I was thinking timing chain, waterpump, spark plugs and fuel injectors? Anything else?
I think it will be a good car once I fix it, it's only got 150k kilometers and it's a manual.
Thanks for your great videos and advice!
Jeremy
It may have blown the head gasket due to having been overheated so you should probably also check to see if the aluminum engine block is warped.
Sounds like you have thought it through. The key is to use a bare metal, not coated, gasket.
I agree with your plans. You are making a big enough investment, I wouldn’t do much more than what you mentioned in your post. But going forward I would keep fresh oil in it frequently.
