Yes I have a 92 ranger with a 4.0 and the transmission hesitates to go into gear would that be a dirty trans filter

Seeing as how that thing is over 30 years old it could be a lot of things and the transmission may just be wearing out. You could try changing fluid and filter but see the site FAQ for details on potential pitfalls on doing so.
