Ford Ranger shifting issues

Hey y’all,

I have a 2011 Ford Ranger single cab I4 automatic with 113k miles on it, and I’m having shifting issues. When I unplug the battery for a little while, those problems go away for the day or sometimes even a whole week. Recently, it shifts into what feels like neutral instead of 3rd gear, and it slams into 4th if I gas it hard enough. I’m guessing this means the shifting solenoid has gone bad in the valve body, but I wanted a second opinion since I don’t have any codes to go off of at the moment. If I need to get a whole new valve body, should I go with a refurbished one or a factory part?

Thanks for your time!

Check your transmission fluid, first.

Sometimes, the ECU will indicate pending codes without turning the check engine light on.

If it's similar to my '99 Ranger, the O/D Off/On indicator on the dashboard will flash on and off when there's an issue with the transmission.
