Scotty,

I’m considering buying a new 2021 Subaru Legacy.  Should I go for the turbo charged engine or the non?

If you'll be keeping the car long-term stay away from turbocharged engines. There's more to go wrong and on a Subaru it stresses the CVT which is the weakest part of the car. If leasing or planning to trade it in after just a few years and you want a bit more zoom go for the turbo, since it probably won't have problems during your short time with it. (I say this driving a turbocharged car myself that is 24 years old and has about 360,000 miles on it. Turbo needed replacing at about the 250K mark and it may well need another by the time it gets to 500K miles 😉 .)

Non-turbo with the least amount of power.

The transmission will get burned out and odds are the engine would hold up better with the non-turbo than the turbocharged one. I mean there is a big difference in strain between 182 horsepower and 260 horsepower and it really isn't worth it for longevity purposes.

Me personally, non. Less moving parts, less problems down the road.
